Behind the design

“Jerusalem is the bride of your Arabism” — these are the words Muthaffar al-Nawwab shouts at Arab leaders in a poem that bears the same name. The following verses are nothing short of harrowing.

The internationally recognizable tricolor of the Palestinian flag has become synonymous with resilience and resistance. Within the grid, every line is filled to its limit. Green and black text and lines weave in harmony, while the word القدس in red stands out powerfully.

The lines almost touch, yet still leave openings toward a wider space. The composition of the piece mirrors the reality of Palestine itself: its people stand tall, deeply rooted in their land and connected with everything upon it. Freedom may seem absent, but it is near.
